It really is X-mas
Christmas is a holiday with no real meaning anymore. It no longer has anything to do with celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Christmas has become all about worshipping at the altar of materialism. I remember decades ago feeling a deep irritation each time I saw "Christmas" written as "X-mas." I realize now, however, that "X-mas" truly is a far more appropriate name for this holiday than, "Christmas." Reason being, this holiday has little to nothing to do with Christ anymore. He may still be included as an after-thought here and there, but by and large, Christmas is a celebration of materialism. In fact, if Jesus Christ, the Holy Risen Son of God, is merely an after-thought in anything, then He has no part in it at all, and whatever that thing is, has no part in Him. The two are completely separate from one another.
I have a job that causes me to interact with the random public 5 days out of the week. Of all the interactions with people there, and in every other area of my life where Christmas has been a topic of conversation, not one person has mentioned Jesus' name to me within that context. Not one. The focus has been wholly on the shopping... "Haven't started shopping yet... Doing all my shopping online... Christmas is so expensive... I'm ready for Christmas... Bought the last gift yesterday...blah, blah, blah." Of all the talk about Christmas gifts, not one single person bothered to mention the Greatest Gift of All... Jesus Christ our Savior!!!
I used to wonder about all the people who do not believe in God and Jesus. Why do they celebrate Christmas? What exactly are they celebrating if they do not recognize Jesus as our Savior? I think I finally understand. Christmas is simply no longer a Christian celebration of the birth of our Savior. It is as simple as that. Those days are gone. Secularism crept through the door of compromise, successfully swallowed Christmas and crapped out an altar of materialism for the worshipping masses. Like clockwork, they flock to it faithfully, year after year. The pressure to participate right along with them is immense! This is the one holiday that nearly forces you to participate. If you don't believe me, try not participating in any of the annual "X-mas" rituals next year. Do not buy gifts. Do not accept gifts. Do not send cards. If you must decorate, use only decor that acknowledges Jesus. Skip the parties. Try those few things next year and you will understand the pressure society exerts on people to conform to the demands of this particular holiday. It is reminiscent of the pressure society placed on everyone in 2020 and 2021 to wear those useless masks and run right out for an endless number of shots of unknown substances in order to prove one's worth as a member of the human race. Yes, pressure to participate in "X-mas" is nearing that level.
Pressure or no pressure, I'm out. This is my 2nd year of non-participation and, although I feel somewhat like a pariah, I don't care. This holiday truly is "X-mas." Christ is no longer a part of it. The masses can worship at any altar of their choosing, but I will worship at the altar of my Savior, Jesus Christ, the Risen Son of God.
